Governor Sarah Palin has released the following statement regarding the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Won't you stand with Governor Palin on this vital issue?
Governor Palin's statement:
The greatest fiscal challenge facing our country today is our government’s dangerously unsustainable debt and its practice of deficit spending. Whatever side you’re on in the abortion debate, surely you can see that our taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortion at any time, let alone these hard economic times. And yet that is what has been happening with the taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest abortion provider, which is awash in scandal after revelations of its dishonesty with the American public.
They receive an average of $1 million taxpayer dollars per day; and regardless of what they had promised the public in their campaign ads, new investigative reporting shows that they are not really using our tax dollars to provide women with mammograms and other real health care services. It’s simply freeing up funds that they can then invest in their primary money-making endeavor: abortion.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t really offer women who find themselves in less-than-ideal circumstances any real choice. They don’t show women that they have the power, capability, strength, and love within themselves to choose the blessing that is life. They don't explain the resources that are available to parents who want to give their child life. They don’t show them that adoption is a beautiful choice too. What they offer is not true empowerment or “choice” or women’s health care.
I join Rep. Mike Pence and others of conscience and common sense who are leading the charge to end the taxpayer funding of the nation’s largest abortion provider. We recognize that not only is our country buried under Mt. McKinley-sized debt, but that the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves. Surely the individual resources of a generous country can come to the aid of women in need without the taxpayer funding of abortion.Send a message to your Representative and Senators requesting that they defund Planned Parenthood by using this easy form.

How about we defund Planned Parenthood because abortion is morally wrong and an act of murder? Plain and simple. Why don’t we start our premise off with that? Sure, we are in an economic recession and the defunding of Planned Parenthood would help with the deficit crisis, but in a moral “Christian” society should that be the reason why we’re fighting this battle?
ReplyDeleteWhy do we always compromise our stance when we’re fighting for something… and for what? For what gain? To soften our argument for the bleeding hearts of liberals? To accept the premise that abortion is OK (“Whatever side you’re on in the abortion debate, surely you can see that our taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortion at any time” - Palin) as long as tax dollars isn’t paying for it? If that’s the route we’re taking, then we have already lost.
If you accept their premise in anyway and compromise on your principals then you're playing by their rules. This is exactly what Palin is doing by taking on a populace tone via using the deficit (hot button issue) as a reason to defund abortions.
I’m all for politician’s opening up dialogue on this, but when they (republicans) can’t cut measly billions from the budget when we have a deficit running in the trillions… I don’t see how we will win this battle (or anyone for that matter) when no one will fight on principals.

I think that Governor Palin HAS made the moral argument many times. More than just talking about her pro life moral outlook, she exemplifies it.
ReplyDeleteShe lives her pro-life values and in fact, if she were elected to the White House, I think her obvious example of love and blessings of her son Trigg could change more hearts than all the preaching and proselytizing in the world.
It's the main reason the left goes into psychotic fits of hatred at the mere mention of her name.
We need to win people's hearts before we can change the laws on this. It's that simple.
Governor Palin takes a back seat to no one in the Pro-life arena. Of course abortion is immoral and an act of murder, but about half the population doesn't agree with this, and they vote too.

Really, the moral argument goes without saying. Of course she is morally opposed to abortion. I think she also makes a very compelling case that Planned Parenthood is doing a disservice to women by not providing them with any alternative guidance and in fact is not providing for the best 'health' of women.
Don’t worry, Palin is the only Republican I see with the strength of her convictions and the courage to confront the left on many many issues.

I have no doubt about her personal beliefs, but where do you think playing politics with our moral and fiscal principals has gotten the conservative movement so far. Which way has the country been going over the past 60 years?
ReplyDeleteThe republicans have an apparent problem when it comes to buying into the false choices of liberals.
So if Planned Parenthood did offer real choices to women, then it would be okay to fund them?
Why does it take an appalling video of an NPR executive and being months or weeks away from hitting our debt ceiling before republicans grow enough chest hair to take on the issue of defunding these programs?
Why is it we either accept the democrats version of “budget cuts”, or be threatened with government shutdown?
Why do we need to bring up the budget to defund abortion? The liberal’s hate her (as you said) but she is taking more of a populace stand on this issue, which I think is wrong. I really don’t care what “side of the issue someone might be on it”…
Yes, about half the country thinks that abortion should be legal, but we only need 51% of the vote. As I recall we just fired a few Judges in Iowa over a certain social issue and that was despite what the media and politicians think is main stream.
I really don’t care what Mitt Romney thinks, as he has no chance of winning the primary. My issue is more with the republican party as whole, and it’s a little discerning to see someone who is suppose to be so far from the “fray” use the same sort of populace speak that gets us nowhere and falls us into the same traps (and need I mention the Branstad nod from her? Oops just did). Yeah… She may have made the morale argument in the past, but giving it’s close to the primary it’s interesting to see how that argument changes.
I guess I might be splitting hairs. I just dont have a lot of hope or spare change. At this point if we dont go "balls to the wall" it might be too late.
